In the east and west of the peninsular plateau , two narrow coastal plains are found , which are called East Coast and West Coastal Plains respectively . It is formed by erosion and deposition by ocean waves and deposition of sediments brought by plateau rivers .

West Coast Plain :


   To the west of the Western Ghats is the Western Coastal Plain from the Gulf of Kutch to the Kumari Cape . The average width of this plain is 64 km . Its maximum width is 80 km near the mouths of Narmada and Tapti rivers . and at many places its width is 50 less than a km . _ The coastal plain from Gujarat to Goa is called Konkan Coast . The region from Goa to Mangalore in Karnataka is called the Kannada coast . This is a very narrow plain . The coastal plain from Mangalore to Kanyakumari is called the Malabar Coast .           


East Coast Plain :


   This plain extends from the mouth of the Ganges in the north of the Bay of Bengal to Kanyakumari in the south . In Tamil Nadu this plain is 100 to 120 km wide . North of the Godavari delta , this coastal plain is narrow and at some places its width is 32 km . This plain is highly fertile due to the delta of the Kaveri , Mahanadi , Godavari and Krishna rivers . It is called the Northern Sarkar Coast between the Mahanadi and Krishna rivers and the South - West Rayal Border Coast in Kurnool , Cuddapah , Anantapur and Chittoor districts . Islands 

   Islands are such parts of the landmass around which the expansion of water is found . _ _ It can be in ocean , ocean , lake and river , there are more than 1000 islands in India which are spread in Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea . Arabian Sea Islands There are remnants of ancient lands and coral reefs . _ _ _ _ The islands of Bengal are indicative of the terrestrial feature of the extended submerged Tertiary ranges of Arakanyama , Myanmar . And located at an altitude of 750 m above sea level .    

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the most important island group in India located in the Bay of Bengal .

   Central Andaman is the largest island in India . The small Andaman island is well known for its habitat of the Ong tribe . The 10 degree channel is located between Chota Andaman and Car Nicobar . The southernmost point of India , Pygmalion Point ( Indira Point ) is located on Great Nicobar . Hooghly The Ganges Sagar Island is situated near the mouth of the river . Pamban Island is located in the Gulf of Mannar . It is also famous as Rameshwaram Island . _ _ It is situated between the Indian peninsula and Sri Lanka .
